The Awakening… Has begun! The trailer for Ultraman Omega, the newest entry in the long-running Ultraman Series has arrived, much to the excitement of a fanbase that has been waiting what, for them, has surely felt like forever! We think it was worth the wait, because there’s tons of information to be found in this trailer that we can chew on before Episode 1 premieres on July 5th. Let’s dig into the footage and see what we can uncover!
Reaching Out

The first piece of footage anyone saw of Omega, about a month and change ago, was a short called “When They Awaken”, which featured an Ultra in silhouette reaching out with an open hand. Now that the full trailer is out, that pose seems to be very important, an action commonly taken not only by Omega, but by his human form, Sorato Okida. All we can tell you for now is that it has a name — the Omega Scope — and its meaning will become clearer as the show begins to air.
Sorato Okida

Speaking of Omega’s human form, Sorato Okida is the first time in a while that we’ve seen a situation where the human is just another form for the Ultra. He’s been described as an amnesiac, with an innocent personality and unfamiliarity with human culture. Pre-series material seems to portray him as someone that could be a bit comedic, but his expression is surprisingly deadpan — though, what could be funnier, potentially, than a hero who’s so serious it wraps back around to comedy?
Like A Shooting Star
The primary story element that has been discussed is about how Ultraman fell to Earth. They haven’t mentioned him coming to Earth, which in this series has never had Kaiju or Aliens appear before, but rather falling to Earth, which suggests he’s not here of his own volition initially. When was the last time that happened? In terms of it being a pure accident, we could go back to the original Ultraman, where Shin Hayata and the hero who would become Ultraman collided, and the alien was forced to merge with him to save his life. More recently, one could argue that the dispersed Tri-Squad in Ultraman Taiga might count, or the wormhole that Ultraman Blazar came through, but this seems a bit different. We’ll have to see what the actual circumstances are.
Kaiju As A New Threat

One thing that’s almost never happened in the Ultraman Series before this is a setting so unprepared for Kaiju, with no history of them. “A world that has never known Kaiju nor Heroes”, is the description for the setting. What has brought them here now? Perhaps a response to Omega? Or is their appearance what drew Omega to Earth in the first place? The last time a civilization was this unprepared was in the movie ULTRAMAN (2004). That led into Ultraman Nexus, and the Night Raider weren’t exactly the best choice to deal with the Space Beast Kaiju that appeared with time. Hopefully this Earth makes better choices.
In addition, there’s a certain Kaiju that has a star-shaped crystal on its chest, just like Omega. Do they have some kind of connection? An Ultraman connection? Jokes aside, we’re eager to see what creatures will appear after this, and how Omega and humanity respond to them.
There’s still plenty more to see when Ultraman Omega premieres on July 5th, 2025, but that’s all we have to say for now about this trailer. If you’re interested in discussing what’s to come, reach out to us on our Twitter page, or join the UC Discord!
