Ultraman: Rising is on the horizon at Netflix, and getting closer each day. A brand-new interpretation of the almost 60-year old Ultraman Series, this exciting movie needs equally exciting directors to helm it — and in the world of American animation, it’s rare to find a pair more exciting than Shannon Tindle and John Aoshima!
Shannon Tindle started his career 24 years ago on WB’s Static Shock as a character designer, and his credits have risen meteorically since then. Known best for being the mind behind the design and screenplay of 2016’s award-winning Kubo and the Two Strings, as well as a writer and character designer for Cartoon Network’s classic Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Tindle brings much of himself to Rising — the movie itself a story derived from one of Tindle’s own original, tokusatsu-inspired tales.
John Aoshima is a similarly venerable director and animation veteran, having worked on some of the greatest modern classics in animation, including several episodes of Disney’s Gravity Falls and Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Being Japanese-American, Aoshima is using his own experiences to inform those of Ken Sato in Rising, adding a deeply personal voice to the movie’s story.
The hearts and minds of both Tindle and Aoshima stand behind every moment of Ultraman: Rising, as do those of Tsuburaya Productions. When Rising comes out later this year, we at Ultraman Connection invite you to discover the story for yourself — and to learn any news about the movie as it comes, stay close to Ultraman Connection.
