Shu Ishido’s Diary – Entry 7

Ultraman Connection is translating each diary entry of Shu Ishido, the GDF inspector helping out SKIP from Ultraman Arc! Read on to find this week’s piece, tied to the bittersweet tale of Homger…

Shu_s Diary 7_Homger

Date: xx/xx

One week has passed since Homger, the scorching kaiju, exploded.
Thanks to the cooperative action between the GDF and SKIP, we were able to locate the hole in which we believe the small kaiju went through. However, as the tunnel collapsed at a deeper point, we can no longer chase it. Its true form is still unknown.
However, according to the thermographic reading from Homger’s body, the two heartbeats, and the small cries heard after it exploded, both the SKIP crew and I have no doubts that this unknown kaiju is Homger’s child.
Other scientific institutions should reach similar conclusions soon.

There are old records of volcanic eruptions, however, it’s likely they were the birth of the kaiju Homger, which self-detonates and uses that energy to give life to its child.
This means that the baby which disappeared into the ground will eventually grow and explode in the very same way, to continue the circle of life.
In a few decades or even centuries, humanity will have to confront Homger again. That is precisely why we must investigate and research as much as possible and create records, so that we can pass on the torch onto the next generation.

I wonder if Ultraman Arc will still be here when the time comes.

Shu_s Diary 7_Arc Luna Armor

At the night of the battle, Homger’s ability to spit scorching flames gave Arc a lot of trouble, forcing him to wear a new blue armor, with a saucer on his arm. That saucer looked very similar to the full moon in the background, taking my breath away with its beauty.
Arc’s new armor gave him a speed so fast it could barely be visible to the naked eye. With the new power from the armor, Arc used after images to baffle Homger. Then, he surrounded Homger with a wind tornado, creating a shield and protecting Hoshimoto City from the explosion.
Though I was dizzy from the intense light, I was able to see Arc gently hugging Homger before it exploded. It was almost like seeing a mother hugging her child, as if they were cherishing each other――
Wait, I got a bit carried away.
The above is nothing more than my personal opinion, based on the fact that he let the baby kaiju escape and made no effort to go after it. Though even that is entering delusional territory. As much as this is my own diary, I still need to restrain myself.
On the next day, Yuma and I discussed it as usual and named Arc’s new armor the “Luna Armor.” “Luna” means moon in Latin, and pairs well with the previously used “Solis Armor,” which represents the sun. When writing my report it was nothing more than a temporary name, but it was eventually accepted officially, as usual.
Honestly speaking, I'm a little hesitant to be recommending these names time and time again, since it may give off the impression that I'm having fun, but when I consulted with Arc FAM, they told me it reduced their workload. Regardless, it does speed things over, and that’s a good thing.

A refreshing breeze just passed through the window.
It’s marking the end of the long lasting and intense heat.
In my hand, there’s a half-drunk cup of iced coffee. Whenever the ice clinks, it reminds me of the time when everyone at SKIP grabbed their glasses of coffee.
The first time I came to this branch, there was a thick wall between the coffee drinkers and tea drinkers. However, that barrier now had a fissure on it, thanks to the abnormally high temperatures!
Unfortunately, right at that moment, the Kaiju Hotline rang and everything fell apart.
Of course, I don’t forcefully push coffee on anyone, as it’s vulgar to push your own preferences towards others. That time, when they were about to taste it, it was such an organic moment. If I’m being honest, it’s frustrating to think they were so close to getting a taste of it.

I would like to taste some top-grade coffee alongside the SKIP crew, and share our thoughts together――I will end today’s entry with that image in mind.

PS:
At the GDF, many people are saying that they should have just finished off Homger on the spot, without relying on Arc’s help. This is also a very important point of view. In order to protect the city from now on, we must imagine a world without Arc.
