Welcome back to Shu Ishido’s Diary, from Ultraman Arc. This week, we delve strongly into Shu’s ethics, and his dynamic with his co-workers in SKIP, especially Rin. We’ll have a lot to say about this one later this week, so stay tuned!
Date: xx/xx
Thanks to Rin’s courageous assistance during the investigation, we were able to capture Satoru Yamagami, a member of SKIP HQ's Kaiju Analysis Unit, suspected of selling kaiju cells on the black market.
He’s currently still under investigation from the GDF. Regardless, he will likely be charged with corporate embezzlement.
His goal was to use the kaiju’s powers to create a better world, instead of simply eliminating them.
This ambition of his was what led him to committing the crime in an attempt to secure research funds. By carelessly leaking these cells to public, not only was there a risk of them being maliciously used, but there could have also been adverse effects on ecosystems. There is no way a specialist like Mr. Yamagami did not consider these risks. Even so, he disregarded the dangers and continued with his plans. Disregarding the “now” for the sake of the “future”.
However, there is no excuse for his actions. Regardless of his ideals, sacrificing lives is unacceptable.
Besides, there’s an entire network of people and groups involved in this scheme. Companies looking to make profit from improper use of these cells, individuals looking to break the law in order to achieve their goals and even underground brokers. They should also be identified and face judgment for their crimes.
After the incident, Rin kept her usual cheerfulness.
It must have been unfathomably harsh to meet the person she admired again(and even encouraged her to join SKIP) under such circumstances. However, at the office, Yuma, the Chief and YouPi have been casually lifting her spirits and watching over her as she heals.
Of course, it’s not like they are doing anything special. They are simply working as usual, but this is exactly what she needs to make her feel relaxed and to keep her spirits up.
Even though it was an order from the GDF, I still am partially responsible for this operation. Right after the incident, I thought I should personally check up on Rin but wasn’t sure how to go about it.
All I can do is brew a good cup of coffee, but Rin is a tea person. For a moment I felt despair that I could do nothing.
But as it turns out, there was no need for it. I just needed to behave as usual and leave it to Yuma, the Chief and YouPi.
Especially when it comes to YouPi, she was involved with his development from the very beginning. As she confronts her past, the “future” that Rin created herself is right by her. Whenever I see the two of them, these thoughts come to mind and I get a warm feeling inside.
Various places are also currently investigating Neronga and Pagos.
During our first battle against Neronga (when we applied more voltage than Neronga's electrical storage organ could handle, causing it to overcharge, as proposed by SKIP) when we thought it was dead, we found a large scar on its body. We first thought it had scratched against a bedrock, but now we have established it was caused by Pagos’ fang.
It’s likely they fought underground for one reason or another, and once Neronga had been taken down, it emerged to the surface in order to restore its energy. Then, Pagos followed Neronga and resumed the fight. We might have taken a glimpse into their daily lives, but having these sorts of incidents taking place above ground is a nightmare for us, humans.
Then, Ultraman Arc appeared.
Arc certainly struggled fighting two enemies at once. Being on the receiving end of Neronga’s Despot Electric Shock and Pagos’ Molecular Structure Destructive Beam at the same time, Arc was forced to use the Solis Armor in order to protect himself. He then took it to the skies with the Arc Eye Sword shining in his hand. He liberated a shockwave in the form of a crescent moon, cutting and defeating both Neronga and Pagos at once.
At the time, I was chasing after Mr. Yamagami. So hearing the thunderous sound, I turned just in time to see Arc landing, taking my breath away. He kept his head low, displaying a sorrowful expression.
It must be nothing more than my imagination though. He did, however, have the same expression when he let Shagong go, and that is a fact.
I will now have my final cup of coffee for the day, as I remember his silhouette against the setting sun.
