Shu’s Diary – Entry 11

Shu’s Diary – Entry 11

This week, the diary of Shu Ishido, GDF Inspector to SKIP from Ultraman Arc, takes place in the middle of a crisis. A titan looms, bonds threaten to break — how is Shu navigating the uncharted waters threatening to drown him? Read on and find out!

The sun is about to rise, and Givas, the mechanical colossus, continues to stand, emitting a green beam.
SKIP’s Hoshimoto City branch has spent the whole night receiving complaints from citizens and trying to decipher Givas’ message, taking turns for a break.
Now it’s my turn, so I moved to the impromptu napping room but I still can’t sleep, so I’m jotting notes down for my journal. I wonder what Yuma is doing, since he was temporarily sent home by the Chief.

Yuma’s words… In the end, you're just like everyone else at the GDF.
I know he had no ill intentions. But even so, funny enough it’s the things people say on a whim that sting the most. It’s the type of situation where even if you quickly tried to retract it, or tried to follow up somehow , nothing would fix the feeling of wanting to disappear from that space, and the wound just gets deeper. I have also made similar mistakes before and would always be taunted by what I had done when I got home.
So I think Yuma was really wise to simply decide to stay quiet at that time. Chief Ban’s nonchalant intervention was also a great help. But I don’t think I’ll ever forget Yuma’s expression of guilt and regret.

Oka-Gubila, the ancient underground beast that appeared out of nowhere, attracted by the noise at a construction site. Yuma’s tactic to use that to our advantage, using the Soniter’s sound waves to attract it was dangerous, but it definitely helped to prevent greater damages.
My whole body felt tense while driving SKIP’s van at high speeds as he used the Soniter. It was different from tasks at the GDF, (and although it might have been somewhat imprudent) there was something quite exhilarating about it.
I don’t think I had ever experienced a situation like this, in which both of us disregarded the different organizations we come from and came to a decision on the spot, together. While it may just be me, it truly felt like a significant moment, that moment felt like a movie.

That’s why I was especially hurt by Yuma’s words afterwards.
Yes, I am from the GDF , and the GDF is different from SKIP. Very different.
We’re a group meant to “investigate in order to protect.” Even though we spend our days and solve a lot of incidents together, there’s still a high and thick wall between us.
And this “wall” doesn’t just exist between the organizations. I myself am still keeping a very big secret from everyone at SKIP.
There’s even a wall within me that makes me keep my distance from everyone――
Yuma has probably been feeling that distance and I wonder if that’s what led him to snap like that. This is only my own assumption, of course, but I can’t help but think about it.

From time to time, Givas’ searchlight peeks through the window.
Whenever I see that green light, it feels like it’s searching into the depths of my heart, making me uneasy. Up until now, there is no information about its effects on the human body, but I’m sure the citizens are spending their nights in fear.

I have been rewatching the video on my tablet for a while now. It’s the video compilation sent by Arc FAM about today’s incident.
Givas, suddenly descending from the sky during Arc and Oka-Gubila’s fight, and Arc using the Luna Armor to stop Givas’ attack. Arc ran across the sky, leaving an after image, to stop Givas’ beam and then disappeared. From the video, I imagine he took quite a lot of damage from that.
Right after that, Givas protected the young siblings from Oka-Gubila’s attack. This is also not included in the video. But Yuma, who coincidentally was at the scene, told us about it.

Arc, who disappeared after being injured; Givas, who stands eerily; and Oka-Gubila, who disappeared without a trace. The whole scene weighs heavy on my heart.

Breaking the silence of the night, that message echoed again: “Givas.”
It seems I won’t be able to sleep. I’ll make a cup of coffee and get back to work.
