Davide Tinto is one of the most dynamic and skilled artists to have worked on the Ultraman Card Game, with his BP02-058 Ultraman Agul and BP02-083 Ultraman Blazar cards occupying cherished spaces in many players’ collections. With Davide doing not one, but TWO RRR cards in BP03 Shadow of Undying Vengeance, we caught up with him to get his thoughts on his Ultraman Ginga and Jugglus Juggler cards!
UC: What is the process by which you approach your art in general?
My art usually proceeds in 3 steps: the layout phase, where I produce a very detailed draft, the ink phase and the shading phase. In these steps I am very careful about details and textures.
UC: Your Ultraman Agul and Ultraman Blazar art show a great love — and a great skill — of reproducing light and color in a 2D form. That’s present with Ginga too, sunlight reflecting off his shoulder armor and his shadow cast over the city’s buildings. What is your process when it comes to pieces like it and Juggler?
As for the color, I work in tandem with my colorist: I try to provide the most exhaustive indications for the shading, the direction of light that I had imagined, the shadows cast... then it's up to my colorist to interpret or modify these decisions. It's a dialogue that I love to have, I find it's a great team game when artists talk to each other.

UC: You’ve done three very different heroes in the Ultraman series already — Are there any Ultras or Kaiju you’d like to try your hand at next?
Oh well, definitely my favorite Ultraman is the first Ultraman. (the classic version) I'm very fond of him, he's one of my childhood heroes and I had the extraordinary pleasure of working on his adventures under Marvel, I think this Ultraman is definitely the one I would love to draw.
As for the Kaiju I don't have any big preferences: they are monsters, they are giants, I'm already happy with them. (Laughing)
