“No matter how slim the hope is, always go for victory. Have faith in your heart and you can achieve the impossible. That's the spirit of Ultraman.” – Ultraman Mebius
40 years after the original Ultraman got into his fateful crash with Shin Hayata, a new ambassador from the Land of Light arrives, to protect the planet. However, his arrival coincides with a threat that may be greater than any invasion in Earth’s history! It’s a good thing, then, that Ultraman Mebius isn’t fighting alone.
If that premise appeals to you, you’re in luck! Mill Creek is back with another must-have 6-disc box set, and this time we’re celebrating the 40th anniversary series, Ultraman Mebius. Beloved by both Generation 2 and Classic era fans alike, Ultraman Mebius is commonly agreed to be a perfect embodiment of Ultraman’s values and a shining example of the entire franchise.

Ultraman Mebius is the most recent Ultraman series to boast a fifty-episode discography, all of which are available in the box set, complete with English subtitles. If fifty episodes isn’t enough to satisfy you, you might be greedy, but you’re in luck! The set includes a myriad of features including all five Mebius specials; Ultraman Mebius, Ultraman Mebius & Ultra Brothers, Ultraman Mebius Side Story: Ghost Rebirth, Ultraman Mebius Side Story: Armored Darkness, and Ultraman Mebius Side Story: Hikari Saga. That’s a total of twenty-four hours of Mebius! Talk about bang for your buck.

Like every great Mill Creek set, Ultraman Mebius comes with an episode guide, chock-full of info on all the gear and tech used by the GUYS (Guards for UtilitY Situation) defense force. We also get comprehensive breakdowns of every technique and form Mebius uses to protect humanity.
For the twenty-five years after Ultraman 80’s service, Earth has been clear of Kaiju incidents. Now, however, the age of Kaiju has returned to the planet, risking a chaotic end to the age of man. Humanity is vulnerable, having not defended against intergalactic foes in some time, but Father of Ultra sends the young noble warrior, Ultraman Mebius to Earth to fight alongside them.

Ultraman Mebius took the technological and storytelling choices of Generation 2, while paying homage to the Showa era with its upbeat vibes and strong adherence to the fundamentals of Ultraman’s philosophy. Mebius assumes the best of others because he always offers his best, and his optimistic disposition makes him a compelling asset to the GUYS team. Mebius’s human form, Mirai Hibino, is similarly popular and beloved, with his innocent charm allowing him to be a voice of optimism and faith.
Ultraman Mebius featured over a dozen new kaiju, a feat that would not be matched before Ultraman Blazar aired sixteen years later. Between these creatures, and the introduction of Maquette Monsters (Capsule Monsters controlled by humanity!) Mebius has an excellent bestiary to draw from.
The Kaiju threat is felt through the presence of fan-favorite Kaiju like Birdon, Bemstar, Twintail, Gomora, Zetton, Eleking, Yapool, Red King and so many more. Bogarl in particular begins this show, a threat comparable to the most dangerous threats faced in past years. Mebius is off to quite a start…

Ultraman Mebius, while containing many incredible single stories, is a serialized narrative, composed of several arcs that feature characters like the mysterious Hunter Knight Tsurugi, Yapool, and more, all of which raise the stakes towards a grand finale.
Of course, there are still some great stand-alone moments. If not for any other reason, Mebius belongs on your shelf purely for Episode 37, ‘Father’s Back’, an iconic Christmas episode that features Mebius literally getting turned to gold.

At the end of the day, the GUYS team is the glue of it all. With the sole remaining member of the original GUYS Japan team and Mirai’s close friend, Ryu, professional motorcyclist Marina, soccer player and sharpshooter George, sweet operator Konomi, doctor and kaiju intelligence Teppei, and Captain Sakomizu, this versatile team has someone for everyone. More than anything, Ultraman Mebius is about the development of meaningful connections in the face of danger.
Mebius is a traditional Ultra who constantly trains hard to be better than he is. Mebius upholds the core tenets of diplomacy, betterment, love of humanity, and hope for a better tomorrow no matter what threatens today.
